Some of my Recent Work

Over the Fence by Debbie Schrack
5/5

Over the Fence

Debbie Schrack

Kidnapped from her front yard in Oklahoma eleven years ago, seventeen-year-old Eve Anderson lives a wretched existence in Bell Meade, Minnesota with her abductor, “Papa,” his common-law wife “Mama,” and Honey, Eve’s four-year-old daughter with Papa. Papa keeps the family hidden behind locked doors, boarded-up windows, and an eight-foot tall fence that surrounds their backyard.

But when Papa decides to marry Eve and move the family to an isolated farmhouse, Eve must risk everything to save herself and Honey. Will she have the courage to escape from Papa before it’s too late? And will Emma have the strength to help her new friend, even as she struggles to save her own sister?

This one is a classic heartbreaker. In all honesty, this is one of the few books I’ve worked on that I own a signed physical copy of; it proudly sits on my office shelf, right where it deserves to be. Debbie is a wonderful author, and this is such a brutally effective book. I loved every second of working on it with her!

4.5/5

Everlast: Siren Song

Nathaniel Jeffirs

Nuclear war breaks out, and the survivors of a small university struggle with the knowledge that they will be trapped together underground for years in a battle for survival. Unlikely sources of power and authority emerge in a test of wills and personal agency as life goes on… in one form or another.

This is the kind of book that knocks the wind out of you, let me tell you. It’s got some of the most powerful, gut-punching moments in just about anything I’ve worked on, and it does not let up until the very end. For a book that takes place largely in a confined space, it’s nothing short of thrilling by the very end.

5/5

The Witch of Dotric

E.V. Macredes

There’s a story of a witch cloaked in shadows. Some say she died in the war, after joining hands with a demon. But whispers in the dark lingered on. If Illius prayed, would she come? If he begged, would she save him? No. Illius had no need for myths and stories. The horns that marred his skull marked him as a beast, a freak. He deserved his cage, the shackles on his wrists. Miracles weren’t meant for the cursed.

I loved this story so much that I just couldn’t wait for it to be published! Since it’s out there for free, I can honestly recommend it for just about anybody. Fantastic worldbuilding, fantastic characters, fantastic prose—it’s just fantastic all around.

5/5

Harvesting Evil

C.J. Wheeler

On the idyllic eastern shores of Lake Michigan, the quiet resort town of Port Orion, Michigan has become prime hunting ground for a serial killer.

This is one of the most polished novels I’ve had the privilege to work with in a long time. CJ is a fantastic author, and this is going to shape up into an awesome series for sure!

4.4/5

Amp Squad: Ship Whisperer Book Two

V. J. Mikles

Feared by her own kind. Hunted by extraterrestrial forces. Can one super soldier find her place among the stars?

I love working with my authors on longer projects like these. Valerie is incredibly talented, and this is just classic hard sci-fi at its best.

4.4/5

Ship Whisperer

V. J. Mikles

When Tabitha whispered to the ship, she never expected it to answer.

This page-turning military space opera is one of the best books I’ve ever worked on, and I highly recommend it for any fan of LGBT sci-fi!

5/5

The Price of a Beating Heart

Ashleigh Bonner

A STRICT HIERARCHY.

A VOW.

I’ve never read a book that churned my stomach quite like this one. The cannibalistic, post-apocalyptic world of this book captivated me, and it’s sure to impress even the pickiest readers.

4.6/5

Dead Before Midnight

Kelly Mason

Novellas don’t get enough love these days. Dead Before Midnight is the perfect example of a simple story told well. With this murder mystery and its supernatural element, Kelly Mason knocks this one out of the park, and I am so glad I got to work on it.

4.8/5

Alex and the Amazing Catventures

Pavel Cerney

I don’t edit too many children’s books, but I’m glad I agreed to work with Pavel on this one. Some demand plot twists and drama, even for children’s books, but this doesn’t bother with any fancy gimmicks. It’s a small story with small characters doing small things, and sometimes, that’s all you need.

Sam Riker, P.I.

Stephen Resar

This love letter to classic noire mysteries comes with a clever supernatural twist and a whole host of loveable characters. Stephen is a wonderful author, and I respect the work he’s done in creating this fantastical, yet gritty world.
